"Old is Beautiful"
As a photographer in my seventies I have often been confronted with stereotypes of the elderly. Being wrinkled, frail and needy are common stereotypes associated with being old. In today’s society young faces have a monopoly in the media, perpetuating the belief that beauty only exists when one is young and wrinkle free. As I get older and I am surrounded by men and women beyond their sixties, I find much beauty in who they are. Using my photography, I capture the beauty, vibrancy and wisdom expressed in their faces. Using natural light, I focus on their humanity and grace and bring out the wonderfully textured nuances in their faces. Beauty both emanates from within and is in the eyes of the beholder! Through these photographs, I pay tribute to the men and women of my generation and expand the viewer’s perception of what beauty is.
